With a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biochemistry and Microbiology (University of Melbourne), and a PhD in Medicine (Monash University, Melbourne), I have worked as a medical research scientist (cell biologist in thrombosis haemostasis, diabetes, cancer) for approximately 25 years. Over the years, I have authored or co-authored 37 scientific articles, reviews and book chapters, and written numerous abstracts, posters and PowerPoint presentations. Other qualifications include a degree in Commerce (University of Melbourne), a Diploma in Education (La Trobe University, Melbourne) and professional training in editing (Holmesglen TAFE, Melbourne).
I have now worked as a medical and scientific editor for over five years, mainly editing biomedical manuscripts by clinicians and scientists from China, Taiwan, South Korea, Brazil and Japan. All manuscripts I edit are by authors with English as a second language. I myself come from a non-English speaking background so I have great empathy for people for whom English is not their first language.
Some of the articles I have edited have been published in:
- The Journal of the American Medical Association
- The Lancet Gastroenterology and Hepatology
- Journal of Clinical Investigation
- Nature
- Blood
- Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis
- International Journal of Clinical Oncology
- Journal of Infection and Chemotherapy
- Clinical Lymphoma, Myeloma and Leukemia
- Digestive Endoscopy
- Journal of Molecular Graphics and Modeling
